HOT SPRINGS -- A warm controversy is on between friends of Dr. J. W. McClenton, mayor, and officers of the Business Men's League, as an aftermath of the patriotic dinner given at a local hotel, under the auspices of the league last night, at which time Governor and Mrs. Brough, staff officers at the cantonment and the allied officers were guests of honor. The mayor says he was not invited to attend the dinner nor requested to act as a member of any of the committees that had arrangements in charge.

STAR CITY -- The Lincoln County Grand Jury returned no true bills Tuesday after investigating a report from the prison physician that inmates had operated a drug ring at Cummins Prison Farm. The jury, apparently chastising Dr. Edwin N. Barron Jr. of Little Rock for revealing details of the case to reporters, said that any "illegal action" found in the future should be "brought to the attention of the proper authorities first, rather than released to news media as was done on October 31."

• A night of violence in Little Rock and North Little Rock has left four people dead and two hospitalized. The three shootings and one stabbing occurred late Friday and early Saturday. The crimes appear to be unrelated, police said. Three of the deaths were in Little Rock, bringing the city's record-setting number of homicides to 56 for the year. In the bloodiest of the incidents, three Little Rock men were shot -- two fatally -- about 1 a.m. Saturday at a house at 1717 S. Park St., near Central High School.

• Patricia Musticchi lived with her husband, Rick, in a house above a hangar near Cabot where they parked their single-engine airplane, and she often went with her husband on weekend excursions and on flights for his aerial photography business. On Tuesday evening, Musticchi was with her husband and his father, Tom, when her husband's new airplane, a 1977 Cessna 210M, crashed shortly after leaving the R.L. Jones Jr. Airport in southwest Tulsa. Patricia Musticchi and her father-in-law were killed, and Rick Musticchi was taken to a Tulsa hospital with broken legs and a broken pelvis. Rick, a Little Rock police officer, had just bought the plane, and the three of them had gone to Tulsa to pick it up.
