Freeman selected
to Harding council
Justin Freeman, marketing communications specialist for the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce, has been selected to join the Advisory Council for the Harding University Northwest Arkansas Professional Center effective Oct. 30. The council links stakeholders in Northwest Arkansas to Harding University, providing input on key areas inside and outside of education.
Loomis deployed
for storm relief
Lt. Andrew Loomis of Lincoln deployed on the Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) in support of relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Loomis is an emergency medicine physician resident physician based at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. He has completed four years of medical school and an internship, and in his third residency year, a few months from graduation.
Pierce supports
nuclear deterrence
Petty Officer 1st Class Eric Pierce of Eureka Spring currently serves in the U.S. Navy as part of the nation's nuclear deterrence mission at Strategic Communications Wing ONE.
The mission stems from the original 1961 Cold War order known as "Take Charge and Move Out!" Adapted as TACAMO and now the command's nickname, today, the seamen of TACAMO continue to provide a survivable communication link between national decision makers and the nation's nuclear weapons.
Pierce is a master-at-arms assigned to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, where the Navy command is headquartered. A Navy master-at-arms is a Navy police officer and supervises and manages sailors in the security department, which protects the E6 Mercury aircraft.
Cowboy Country
artists earn awards
The performers of a different brand of country music -- cowboy country -- were celebrated at the first Pro Cowboy Country Artist Association Awards Show on Oct. 14 in at the Fort Smith Convention Center.
The night's winners were:
Song, album, songwriter and male vocalist of the year, "Party On The Prairie," Terry Brown; group of the year, High Country Cowboys; western swing album of the year, Down The Trail, and female vocalist and entertainer of the year, Kristyn Harris; yodeler of the year, Marty Kosel; novelist of the year, R.D. Gregory; legend award, Cowboy Joe Babcock disc jockey of the year, Barbara Richhart
Winners received custom, engraved Montana Silversmiths belt buckle. The entertainer of the year and the 2017 legend of the year winners were also presented with engraved Henry Rifles from the Henry Repeating Arms company.
