UAMS' Fort Smith med center moves

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock recently moved its West regional Family Medical Center to a new 30,000-square-foot facility at South 12th and E streets in Fort Smith.

Ground was broken on the $10.5 million project in March 2016. The regional arm provides clinical care and health education services as well as trains medical residents in primary care.

The new building increases the number of exam rooms from 31 to 48 and has a consultation room for each area to provide more space for the team-based approach to patient care.

Family Medical Center provides primary care to patients of all ages. The center also offers pediatric and obstetrical care, as well as treatment of immediate medical needs and ongoing management of chronic conditions.

Americold earns job safety award

Americold Logistics LLC in Springdale received a three-year accumulative safety award from the Arkansas Department of Labor.

The company's 34 employees worked from March 26, 2014-March 26, 2017, without a lost day away from work because of a work-related injury or illness.

An award ceremony was held Tuesday in Americold Logistics, at 1200 N. Old Missouri Road.

The Arkansas Department of Labor, the Arkansas Insurance Department and the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission present this award to Arkansas companies that excel in on-the-job safety.

Firm's vitamin D claims pass test

ConsumerLab.com LLC evaluated and approved Bio-Tech Pharmacal's D3-50TM (Vitamin D3-50,000 IU). ConsumerLab.com is a provider of independent product test results and information.

The vitamin was tested by ConsumerLab.com to assure it contained a minimum of 100 percent and not more than 165 percent of its labeled amount of vitamin D, as well as met any specific claims for vitamin D3.

Foundation work receives 4 awards

The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts presented the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care with four awards in its 23rd annual communicator awards competition. The foundation is headquartered in Little Rock and has offices in Fort Smith.

The foundation's education campaign for long-acting reversible contraception received a 2017 Communicator Award of Excellence for integrated campaigns.

The foundation also earned three awards of distinction, which recognizes projects that exceed industry standards in quality and achievement. They were: teen drinking, smoking and prescription abuse bookmarks; state of well being report on substance abuse 2016 spring book; and a hand-washing poster.
