There's no chance of getting out clean from the "Pig Trail Mud Run" presented by the Springdale Rotary Club on June 3. The fifth annual benefit 5K will begin and end at Marchant Arena in Elm Springs, and the course will run through undeveloped land on the Ecclesia College campus. Linda Slothower, event chairwoman, said the race's 15 obstacles will include two creek beds, a muddy steeple-chase, zip line, rope bridge, two firemen's poles and a climbing wall.

The club is encouraging runners to form teams and has planned prizes for several categories, such as largest team, best dressed team and teamwork. Teams of 12 qualify for the "12 for 10 Big Pig Team Discount," in which 12 runners pay for only 10.

Slothower said the "Recover Party" post-race at Marchant Arena will include food, beverages, dancing and games. (Bringing a change of clothing is recommended.)

The club helps support Rotary Park in Springdale, Miracle League, scholarships, leadership programs for high schoolers and bike racks along the Razorback Regional Greenway.

Proceeds from the race will go toward a new Rotary literacy project for third-graders the club started last year. Each third grader in the Springdale Public Schools will receive three books selected for each child's interest and reading level. The books are the children's to keep and expand their home libraries.
