The Rogers School Board accepted the resignation of athletic director Mark Holderbaum at its meeting Tuesday night.

Holderbaum had spent 10 years in that position. His contract runs through June 30.

Charles Lee, assistant superintendent for general administration, said the job will be posted on the school district's web site today. However, he has a meeting planned for later this week with high school administration to discuss how responsibilities of the athletic director's position could change going forward.

Lee also said he's hopeful to have a recommendation to the board by the June board meeting.

"Any time you have a resignation, you have a change in a position, it's good to step back and take a look," said Dr. Marlin Berry, Superintendent of Rogers Public Schools. "I would like to think that Rogers athletics, we have a strong enough programs that someone's going to come in and want to be a part of it and move us forward even more.

"We want to thank Mark for his 10 years of service. He's done an awful lot with our programs."

Holderbaum said he will now look for new challenges.

"I think it's a good time to look for some other opportunities for me professionally and for our family, too," Holderbaum said. "It's been a good 10 years. We've had a lot of challenges, done a lot of good things. I'm still excited about the direction we've got a lot of our programs going."

Holderbaum, 52, shepherded the school district through the expansion into two high schools in 2009.

"We've seen 20 state championships and 58 final four finishes through track," Holderbaum said. "We've seen our baseball teams, both schools, in the state title games. Volleyball my first year was in the championship game. We've seen a lot of success on the field as well as in the classroom and those are exciting things to be a part of."

The school district also started wrestling in 2007 and bowling in 2009. Both Rogers High and Rogers Heritage have won state championships in the last nine years in wrestling. He also helped negotiate a district-wide apparel partnership with Under Armour, which was the first in Arkansas and also secured a partnership with Gatorade, also a first for an Arkansas school district.

Holderbaum also had a hand in hiring new football and basketball coaches at both Rogers High and Rogers Heritage recently.

Lamont Frazier was hired as boys basketball coach at Rogers only a few weeks ago. Tony Travis (Heritage) and Mike Loyd (Rogers) are both about the complete their first year as football coaches, while Scott Moore is finishing up his first year as girls basketball coach at Heritage.
