Two Arkansans struck by vehicles die

Two Arkansans died after they were struck by vehicles in separate incidents.

A 17-year-old died Monday after he stood in the road in Hot Springs and was hit by a car, according to Hot Springs police.

Antonio Lashwyne Nellum III of Hot Springs was standing in the road about 12:15 a.m. Monday when a 2006 Acura TSX hit him on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway between McLeod Street and Airport Road, a Hot Springs Police Department news release said.

The vehicle was headed west on the the highway at the time, authorities said.

The Garland County coroner pronounced Nellum dead at the scene, police said.

Authorities said he was wearing black clothes when he was hit.

In WaKeeney, Kan., which is about 215 miles northwest of Wichita, authorities said an Arkansas woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 70.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said 47-year-old Lisa Longo of Fort Smith was killed Saturday as she picked up debris along the side of I-70. The patrol said a tractor-trailer that was in the passing lane went left of center and struck her.

Longo was out of her vehicle because it had lost part of its load. The vehicle was parked along the shoulder.

Authorities are looking for a dark-colored semi-truck with a light-colored box trailer that was traveling in tandem with another semi-truck. The patrol said the truck that struck Longo may have damage to the driver's side.
