Broadbent plays blues; benefit honors LaBeef

Jack Broadbent will perform at 8 p.m. today at South on Main in Little Rock. Admission is $10.

Broadbent, a native of Great Britain, performs folk and blues-rock on slide guitar. He released a debut CD, Along the Trail of Tears, in 2015 and will tour this summer with Peter Frampton.

He will also perform at the Lyric Theater in Harrison on Friday night.

A benefit will be held for Arkansas rockabilly legend Sleepy LaBeef from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ward Country Dance Music Hall in Ward. Admission is $20.

Participating musicians will be Sonny Burgess and The Legendary Pacers, Jason D. Williams and band, Ace Cannon and band, W.S. Holland and band, Stan Perkins and band and J.M. Van Eaton.

Holland played with Johnny Cash for 37 years and played on Carl Perkins' hit recordings. Stan Perkins is the son of Carl Perkins and toured with his father for many years. Van Eaton played drums on Sun Records' hits by Charlie Rich, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison.

LaBeef, who has had health problems, as has his wife, Linda, will also perform.

Rodney Block & The Real Music Lovers will perform for a St. Patrick's Day celebration -- "The Green Party" -- a jazz vs. hip-hop concert at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $10.

Block will be joined by Thememusiq and Rah Howard.

Patrick Sweany will perform at 9 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $10.

Sweany, an Ohio native, has released 11 blues-rock albums, the latest of which, Daytime Turned to Nighttime, came out in 2015.

Bowen, a native of Waco, Texas, released the first of 10 albums in 2002. He released two albums in 2016: Then Sings My Soul: Songs for My Mother and Watch This (with Randy Rogers).

Weedeater, along with opening acts Beitthemeans, Iron Tongue and Tempus Terra, will perform at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 the day of the show.

The late Sister Rosetta Tharpe will be honored with "Arkansas Got Sister Rosetta Tharpe Talent" in her Cotton Plant hometown from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the ARcare Theatre Park on Main Street. Admission is free.

The event will be a "battle of guitars and singers" for local artists and others who will perform Tharpe's songs from 1 to 3 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by a screening of the 2013 PBS documentary, Sister Rosetta Tharpe: The Godmother of Rock & Roll, in the Cotton Plant Historical Museum, 142 Central Ave. Admission is free.
