SPRINGDALE — An Arkansas prison escapee who had been on the run for more than three decades has been recaptured.

The state Department of Corrections says 60-year-old Steven Dishman was arrested Sunday at a home in Springdale by Springdale Police and state troopers. The department initially spelled Dishman’s first name as Stephen.

Based on a tip, officers with Springdale police and Arkansas State Police went to 2711B McMillan at 11:35 a.m. Sunday and found Dishman at the home, according to Lt. Jeff Taylor of Springdale’s Police Department. Taylor said Dishman was arrested without incident, taken to the Police Department and booked in and turned over the Arkansas Department of Correction.

Further details of what led authorities to Dishman and his arrest weren’t immediately released.

The Correction Department says Dishman was serving a 7-year sentence for theft of property and burglary convictions in Benton and Washington counties when he escaped on May 28, 1985.
