Maintenance fixes planned on ramps

Repairs to ramps on highways and interstates in Little Rock that have a special safety treatment will require the ramps to be temporarily closed while the work is performed for three days this week, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

The ramp from Arkansas 10, also called Cantrell Road, to Interstate 30 and the ramp from Third Street to eastbound Arkansas 10 will be closed for 15-minute intervals from 7 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Wednesday, weather permitting. The work began Monday night.

Also, the flyover bridge from Interstate 30 eastbound to Interstate 630 westbound will be reduced to one lane from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, also weather permitting.

Traffic will be controlled using warning signs and traffic drums, the department said.

The closures will allow repairs to the high-friction safety treatments on the ramps to enhance braking in curves or approaching intersections when the ramps are wet. The treatment using rocks that are both polish- and wear-resistant develops channels to prevent water buildup on wet surfaces, the department said.
