Lanes on U.S. 70 to close for paving

Paving on U.S. 70 in Saline County will require four days of lane closings beginning today, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

The eastbound and westbound lanes will alternately be closed between Arkansas 88 and 10 Mile Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Friday, weather permitting. Flagging operations will control traffic within the work zone.

Motorists should consider alternate routes during construction, including U.S. 270, the department said.

The work is part of a $78.5 million project to widen 17.5 miles of U.S. 70 to five lanes from Interstate 30 in Benton to U.S. 70B in Hot Springs. The route is two lanes with some passing lanes.

The public is advised to be cautious when traveling in the work zone at reduced speeds. Speeding fines double within the work zone. The work is expected to finish in late 2018.
