"Today, we are proud to help bring a local children's hospital to the region," he said in a news release. Green Forest is about 20 miles east of Eureka Springs.

The gift is among about $57 million in donations in the past two years to help build the 230,000-square-foot facility near Arvest Ballpark and Interstate 49 in Springdale. Hospital officials expect it to open about a year from now with 24 beds, a pediatric emergency room, clinics and other services for the region's tens of thousands of children.

The hospital, which has its main facility in Little Rock, set a fundraising goal of about $70 million for the $167 million project, with the balance coming from bonds and revenue. Donations from the public also are being accepted.

The Springdale location's major steel work and central power plant enclosure were finished by the end of last year, Tricia Montague, senior vice president of regional services, said last week.
