FAYETTEVILLE -- Hannah Martin celebrated for a few moments after she had broken the Class 5A-7A state girls indoor high jump record, then decided to take it a little bit higher.

So the Rogers High junior went back and broke it again. Martin cleared 5 feet, 7 inches on her second attempt during Saturday's meet at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

"I'm really proud of this because this is what I've been working for since the eighth grade," Martin said. "I'm glad all my work paid off.

"My legs felt good, and my steps finally worked out. I just felt good, and I had the momentum, I guess after watching my team do so good."

Martin and Rogers teammate Elise Randels were the only high jumpers remaining after the bar was raised to 5-5. Both of them cleared that height, then decided to break the record of 5-6 set 20 years ago by Fayetteville's Keely Yarbrough.

Martin grabbed the record on her second try, while Randels failed to clear that height. Martin then decided to give 5-7 a try and cleared it again on the second try before going for 5-8 and missing all three attempts.

"I have this problem that I stride out, so I take my steps longer than they need to be," Martin said. "I finally told myself to calm down and run. That's when I cleared it.

"On 5-7, I think I need to get a feel for the height before I can figure out what to do with my body and get over the bar."

The only other girls record to be set came in the last event. Springdale Har-Ber's team of De'Sire Perez, Kalyn Haley, Raeghan Smithpeters and Julianne Dillon had a time of 4 minutes, 2.30 seconds in the 4x400-meter relay, breaking the previous mark of 4:03.15 set by Cabot two years ago.

The one-two finish by Martin and Randels, as well as a 200 victory by Hannah Lueders -- who finished as the high-point champion -- propelled Rogers to the state title, the first since Becky Efurd took over as the Lady Mounties' coach in 2009. Rogers finished with 100 points to 88 for second-place Bentonville High, the second consecutive runnerup finish for the Lady Tigers.

"The high jump is where we were able to get some distance," Efurd said. "I knew we were in a good spot, but not comfortable because I knew what Bentonville had in the 3,200 and could go 1-2-3.

"That's when I got onto the girls. I told them if they couldn't get in there and break up those points, there's no sense in running it. We ended up getting 12, which helped, and we picked up eight more surprise points in the triple jump."

Meanwhile, North Little Rock senior Kennedy Lightner admitted he didn't run his best 60-meter race Saturday, but it was good enough to break the state record.

Lightner turned in a time of 6.95 seconds and broke the previous state record of 6.98 set by Fort Smith Southside's Kameron Beeler in 2011. Lightner, however, had a time of 6.90 last month during the Arkansas High School Invitational on the same track.

"Everything was good -- my start, my finish," Lightner said. "I really tried my hardest to run a 6.8, but it didn't work out. But I'm happy with how I did. I did pretty good."

It was just the start for Lightner's day. He turned out to be triple-winner, taking the 400 in 49.33 seconds before finishing it off with a state-record time 0f 21.90 seconds in the 200, breaking the previous mark of 21.99 set by Little Rock Parkview's Eric Nathaniel in 2012.

The other boys record to be broken also came in the 4x400 relay. Har-Ber's team of Caleb Edwards, Jadon Bartholomew, Ethan Carney and Tevin Eckwood combined for a time of 3:24.65, more than 3 seconds faster than the previous mark set by Bryant in 2005.

It capped off a brilliant meet for the Wildcats, who enjoyed their first-ever state track title. Har-Ber, whose only other event win came from Zach McWhorter in the pole vault, finished with 95 points, followed by Bentonville with 72 and Fayetteville with 55.

"It's hitting me right now," Har-Ber coach Wayne Hall said. "What's running through my mind now is what the kids did -- the effort they gave. It's been a long time coming.

"We thought what we needed to do, and this was the most depth I've had since I got here in 2012. I keep telling them it's not about getting first all the time. First places are nice, but in track, it's all about the points."
