LR Christian ekes one out

Little Rock Christian 47, LR Parkview 46

Little Rock Christian (7-16, 3-7 6A/5A-4) overcame a 14-point first-quarter deficit to beat Little Rock Parkview 47-46 Friday night at Warrior Gym.

Junior guard Justice Hill split two free throws with 6.2 seconds remaining to provide the winning margin.

"Every day at practice, the first thing we do is shoot two free throws and the last thing we do is shoot two free throws," Hill explained. "I felt a little pressure, but I had to do what I had to do."

Hill's free throw allowed the Warriors to erase an 11-0 deficit less than four minutes into the game.

"Probably not how we'd have liked to start out," said first-year Little Rock Christian Coach Clarence Finley. "But to our kids credit, we never got discouraged, we stuck to the game plan and we pulled one out."

Parkview extended its lead to 17-3 in the first quarter, before the Warriors got within 17-7 to close the quarter.

The Warriors trimmed the deficit to within 28-26 at halftime on the strength of making all seven of their free-throw attempts in the second quarter.

Little Rock Christian led by as many as three points four times in the final quarter before Parkview's Curtis White made a three-pointer with 2:18 left to tie the game at 44-44.

White gave the Patriots a 46-44 lead when he scored in the lane with 1:07 left, but Chris Hightower tied it at 46-46 on a layup with 50.1 seconds remaining.

Parkview held for the final shot, but White lost the ball out of bounds with 11 seconds remaining.

The Warriors broke Parkview's press with two passes, the second ending up with Hill, who drove the lane and drew a foul.

The Arkansas Razorbacks commit missed the first shot but made the second. White's last-second three-pointer missed, setting off the Warriors' celebration.

Little Rock Christian got a team-high 14 points from Hill and 10 more from Will Strickland. Caylin Bennett led the Warriors with 11 rebounds.

Parkview was led by White's game-high 16 points while Javon Franklin added 14.
