Lamar coach arrested in connection with endangering minors

ALTUS -- A Lamar boys basketball coach was arrested in connection with driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a minor Friday night, according to an Arkansas State Police press release.

State Troopers were called after reports that Kevin Kyzer, 51, of Knoxville was intoxicated and driving a Lamar school bus with children on board, according to the press release.

Brett Sampley, Lamar's athletic director, confirmed those children were Lamar School District students.

Troopers found the bus east of Altus and took Kyzer into custody around 5:30 p.m. Lamar school officials met the Troopers at the bus and made arrangements to take the students back to Lamar, according to the press release.

There has been no action taken concerning Kyzer's employment, Sampley said. Monday will be the soonest school officials will meet for discussion.

Kyzer was being held Saturday at the Franklin County Detention Center, according to the press release.
