Man pinned by tow truck Saturday, flown to Washington Regional

A man was in critical condition Saturday night when his tow truck rolled forward and pinned him between his truck and a vehicle he stopped to assist, Liz Chapman, Arkansas State Police public information officer, said Sunday.

The condition of the driver is unknown as of this morning.

State Police responded to Interstate 49 southbound near the Bobby Hopper tunnel around 8:38 p.m., Chapman said in an email. The highway was shut down for 25 minutes to land a medical helicopter and fly the driver to Washington Regional Medical Center.

Chapman said witnesses said the man "had stopped to help a stranded motorist change a tire."
