Crystal Bridges has named Lieven Bertels as the director of what will become an innovative art space in Bentonville's downtown Market District, the museum announced Wednesday.
The transformation of the former Kraft Foods plant on Southeast E Street into an arts venue should begin early next year with a goal to open in early 2020.
The newly named Momentary "is an adaptive reuse project that will transform a decommissioned Kraft Foods plant," according to a news release.
The museum appointed Bertels as director of the venue after an international search. Bertels is expected to join Crystal Bridges in September.
Bertels was the CEO and cultural director of Leeuwarden-Fryslân 2018 European Capital of Culture, a year-long festival in the Netherlands focusing on the arts in a rural context. He was the festival director for Sydney Festival in Australia from 2011 to 2016.
Crystal Bridges will be offering updated about the project through its blog, Facebook page and Twitter feed.
