NWA fishing report

Beaver Lake

Crappie are biting on the south end of the lake.

Mike Whitehouse at Hickory Creek Marina said crappie are biting 15 to 18 feet deep around brush. Fishing along manmade brush piles is best. Jigs are working better than minnows. A good jig color is red or black body with a chartreuse tail.

Crappie can be caught by trolling crank baits. The Bandit 300 series is popular with anglers. The favorite color is avocado splatter.

Beaver tailwater

Tom Steinke at the Beaver Dam Store said trout are biting well on Power Bait. The top flies are midges, nymphs and Copper Johns.

Lake Sequoyah

Mike McBride at the lake bait shop said black bass fishing is good with plastic worms and top-water lures. Dude Warford caught a 6-pound bass last week on a top-water lure.

Crappie are biting minnows or jigs six feet deep. Flathead catfish are biting sunfish or goldfish.

Swepco Lake

Kenny Stroud in Siloam Springs said black bass are biting plastic worms two to 20 feet deep. Try night fishing with big plastic worms in dark colors.

Illinois River

Stroud recommends using tube baits, grubs or Rooster Tails for black bass.

Siloam Springs Lake

Stroud recommends using top-water lures early and plastic worms during the day.
