A suspected tornado destroyed an elementary school and fire station in Goodman, Mo., Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

Goodman Elementary School is in shambles.

The town’s fire station is demolished.

Most of the school's roof is peeled back like the top of a sardine can and school supplies are strewn across campus.

According to families milling about the property, school officials notified parents that school will be cancelled for the remainder of the week, and possibly, the year. Goodman is part of the Neosho School District. A district official said no decision has been made about how to deal with the remainder of the school year. She said parents should receive information from the school notification system. They can also track the district’s social media accounts.

Shingles, bricks, and glass litter Main Street, with a heavy concentration of debris settled in front of the now-collapsed fire station.

In addition to the public property that sustained damage, many homes were mangled by the high-speed winds.

As homeowners began clearing their properties to eventually repair or rebuild, Missouri Department of Transportation trucks were canvassing the area, surveying the damage.
