Color Run Night adds new hue to Mud Run

It would appear that the annual Mud Run at Two Rivers Park, self-billed as Little Rock's dirtiest 5K, has cleaned up its act, or at least expanded its color palette to include more than brown. The "down and dirty," according to MudRun.org, is a link to The Color Run Night.

For those unfamiliar with the original Color Run that takes place during the sunlit hours, the format is much the same. It's a multicolored 5K with a paint zone at the beginning of each kilometer and with each zone having a different color scheme. It's an untimed event so the general goal is not to finish first, but finish as colorfully as possible.

The Color Run Night removes the sun, and adds in black lights and techno music at the finish line party.

The event itself begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Western Hills Park, 5207 Western Hills Ave., Little Rock.

Online registration is available until midnight Thursday for $39.99 per runner. Children 5 and under as of Saturday may run for free minus any of the frills, or for $14.99 kids can receive the same swag bag of glow-in-the-dark goodies as the adults.

The swag bag includes an event T-shirt, a black light headlamp, a personal bag of glow chalk, and some Color Run stickers.

Runners who register online will receive an email letting them know packet pickup details.

According to the website, Color Run powders are made of cornstarch, baking soda and food dye. This writer personally suggests goggles or glasses and a bandana to keep the chalk out of the mouth, nose and eyes. Also, a towel to lay over the car seat for the drive home is handy.
