Separate wrecks on Arkansas roads fatal to 2

Two men in their 20s died Sunday in separate wrecks on Arkansas roads, state police said.

Troopers said 25-year-old James Cooper Jr. of Magnolia died at 6:45 a.m. after he veered off the road on a curve while driving north on Highway 371. He then hit a tree in the east ditch.

Cooper was taken to Magnolia Regional Medical Center, where Columbia County Coroner Randy Reed pronounced him dead at 7:25 a.m., according to a police report.

In another wreck, police said Tyler Smith, 23, of Crossett died just past noon in Ashley County.

Smith was traveling north on Highway 133 near Crossroads when he drove off the road on the west side and hit a culvert. He was thrown from the vehicle as it overturned several times, according to a police report.

Deputy Coroner Guy Huges pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police described weather and road conditions as clear and dry at the time of the accidents.

The deaths were the 185th and 186th reported on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary police information.
