Bentonville sweeps 7A state soccer titles

— Gunner Gilbert tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Shiloh Christian past Ashdown 1-0 in the Class 4A state championship at Baum Stadium on Friday.

Gilbert threw 75 pitches and posted the Saints’ fifth postseason shutout and fourth straight in state tournament play.

Shiloh Christian (15-10) scored the game’s only run when center fielder Tyler Roth led off the sixth inning with a bunt single. Roth stole second base and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on a wild pitch.

Ashdown (22-7) threatened with two outs in the seventh on back-to-back singles, but Gilbert got a groundout to end the game.

The title was the fourth for Shiloh Christian and the first for coach Moe Henry.

Bentonville 2, Springdale 0 (7A Boys Soccer)

Sam Uzere and Tyler Roberts scored first half goals, and Bentonville beat Springdale 2-0 Friday at Razorback Field.

Bentonville (16-5-1) won its third straight state title, beating a Springdale team that had won both regular season meetings between the teams.

Tigers senior goalkeeper Ben Barron had a number of crucial saves, while senior defender Wyatt D'Spain won most valuable player honors in the shutout.

Springdale finished the season 19-6.

Bentonville 3, Cabot 0 (7A Girls Soccer)

Lauren Holly scored a first half goal and propelled Bentonville to a win over Cabot at Razorback Field.

The Lady Tigers added goals with 9:42 and 2:28 remaining to put the game away. Bentonville (20-4-1) won its fourth state championship in five years.

Bentonville goalkeeper Gabby Miller was named most valuable player. Cabot finished the season 20-5.
