Officers responded about 3:11 a.m. to a residence at 41 Nandina Circle at Westwood Apartments. They found Mario Jerome Thompson, 33, on the floor inside the apartment. He'd been shot in the stomach. Officers treated Thompson at the scene until medical personnel arrived, according to a police report.

Thompson of Jacksonville was then taken to Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead.

Police found Antonio DeWayne Bland, 31, lying outside the apartment suffering from two gunshot wounds in his chest and one to the stomach, according to the report. He was taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment. Police said Bland of Jacksonville was in critical condition. He remained hospitalized late Tuesday.

Circumstances of the shooting were unclear.

Police spokesman officer Richard Hilgeman said the department had no information to release on a suspect.

Police and court records show Thompson knew Bland's younger brother, Julius. Thompson and Julius Bland were arrested in 2012 after a Little Rock police officer caught them stealing metal from a scrap yard on the city's east side.

Thompson negotiated a guilty plea to a felony count of breaking or entering in the case.

Julius Bland, then 26, has been convicted of numerous felonies including second-degree battery and aggravated assault.

Court records show Thompson was also convicted of felony possession of a controlled substance in 2012. Filings in that case state that he worked at Entergy Arkansas, and had five children and a wife.

Thompson's death is the 11th homicide of the year in Little Rock.

An investigation is ongoing.
