RockStar Lounge Madonna look-alikes in ‘Vogue’ at fundraiser

Madonna left the look behind long ago. You know the look. Teased, messy hair. Big, floppy hair bows. Chains, lace and arm bangles -- that look.

You wouldn't have thought she'd left it behind, judging from the early Madonna looks among volunteers and attendees of RockStar Lounge, the annual rock 'n' roll fundraiser for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences' Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. This year's event took place April 21 at Club Level in downtown Little Rock. Attendance was so good it nearly overwhelmed the two-level nightspot.

Physicians-turned-bartenders (along with the club's regular bar personnel) dispensed libations. Outside, food trucks Southern Salt Food Co., Hot Rod Wieners and Loblolly Creamery dispensed refreshments. Top sponsors enjoyed VIP lounge and club seating, concert memorabilia (which included fingerless lace Madonna-esque gloves) and backstage passes.

With videos playing in the background and attendees dancing, noted Madonna tribute artist Christine America sported various early-Madonna get-ups of her own as she performed such hits as "Material Girl," "Holiday," "Lucky Star," "La Isla Bonita" and "Live to Tell." Her performance was supplemented by the music of DJ G-Force.

The evening also included a pre-show aerial silks performance by Camille Rule of Arkansas Circus Arts, a Madonna look-alike contest and a mini-fashion show featuring selections from Culture Clothing Co. and Steamroller Blues.

The event raised more than $82,000 for the institute, according to Catherine Tapp, special events director for the institute.
