FORT SMITH -- Mark Schlievert, director of solid waste for Berkeley County Water and Sanitation in South Carolina, has been named the city's new director of sanitation.
Schlievert is a geologist with a track record of accomplishments spanning 41 years in inspection, design and management of heavy construction projects, a Fort Smith news release said.
"Mr. Schlievert's technical background in landfill management really stands out," Acting City Administrator Jeff Dingman said in the announcement Friday.
Schlievert will start April 18 at a salary of $85,000 a year.
Dingman fired Baridi Nkokheli in December as director of sanitation after 10 years in the position.
