Tyson Foods names new president

The chief commercial officer of Tyson Foods will be its next president, the company said in a news release.

Tyson's board of directors promoted Tom Hayes to his new position Monday. Donnie Smith will continue as the company's CEO, the firm said.

Before he was the chief commercial officer, Hayes served Tyson as the president of food services.

“I am honored to serve as president of Tyson Foods,” Hayes said in a statement. “I appreciate the confidence the board has placed in me and look forward to working closely with Donnie and the board to help our company become a global leader in protein-centric branded foods.”

Hayes is a 29-year veteran in the food industry, the release said, having spent time at firms like Sara Lee and Hillshire Brands Co.
