An Oklahoma man was sentenced to 40 years in prison after he admitted to raping a 10-year-old girl.

Joseph Wayne Arms, 30, of Hugo pleaded guilty Thursday morning to rape, a Class Y felony. He was also charged as a habitual offender.

Arms was arrested Jan. 19.

Rogers police began investigating after receiving a report from the Iowa Department of Human Services concerning a girl reporting that Arms had molested her, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The girl reported that Arms had sexually abused her in a Rogers motel, according to court documents. The girl said that Arms also took photographs of her and showed her pornographic videos, according to the affidavit.

Arms was interviewed by police and he initially denied having sexual contact with the girl, the affidavit states. He later admitted to engaging in numerous sex acts with the girl, according to the affidavit.

Circuit Judge Robin Green accepted the plea agreement and Arms’ guilty plea.

Arms was sentenced to 40 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. He will have to serve at least 28 years before he is eligible for parole.

Arms will have to abide by a suspended sentence for 10 years after his release from prison.

Arms must register as a sex offender. He must also complete the prison’s sex offender program or a similar one after his release from prison.
