The Missouri State University Art and Design department's MFA program in visual studies places an emphasis on the student's individual research. Spotlight Talk: Linda Eaton -- Meet "American Made" expert Linda Eaton, director of collections and senior curator of textiles at Winterthur Museum, as she explores the use of textiles in 19th-century American home life. Burnt Series -- The Fayetteville Underground will be featuring two local artists, Brandon Bullette and Rae McVey, in exhibits at Fossil Cove Brewing Company in Fayetteville. Bullette's "Burnt Series" is painted on repurposed wood from a restaurant ,evoking the collective imagery of that place, while McVey presents pieces selected from 10 years of collected works. Look Closer: Early American Art and Culture -- Mindy Besaw will host three evening sessions exploring early America through art, literature, etiquette and history. Inspired by the extraordinary art and glimpses of daily life in the "American Made" exhibition, each class will focus on a different topic in the galleries and include group discussions, hands-on activities and exclusive looks at rare books and objects. Countryside Vistas -- Artworks depicting rural landscapes by local award-winning artist Julie Mayser are on display at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith through Aug. 31. "American Made: Treasures from the American Folk Art Museum" -- Featuring more than 115 artworks, including quilts, paintings, furniture, sculpture, weather vanes, works on paper and more from the renowned collection of the American Folk Art Museum in New York City, this exhibition examines the role artworks like these have played in shaping the visual image and national identity of the United States. this is the first presentation of American folk art at Crystal Bridges. "Clinton and Kennedys" -- In a collaboration with Fayetteville Underground, the Clinton House Museum in Fayetteville will display "Clinton and Kennedys: Artist Exhibition by Tansill Stough" through the end of September. August Art Show at White Lotus -- New art for the summer show includes works by Marlene Samuel, F. Lee Green, Karl Killian and Red Star. Greeting cards by Lyons Designs and Ruthie Graen will be available. The show also features works by Matt Courtney, Ed Laningham and MA Long. "The Art of Transcendence" -- Fort Smith's Regional Art Museum is holding its annual national competitive exhibition, created to encourage and recognize professional artists.
