Removal of yard waste in LR behind schedule

Pickups will run into early August

Yard waste pickup in Little Rock is running a few days behind schedule, with additional crews working to get caught up after recent storms, the Little Rock Public Works Department said Monday.

On Monday, workers started to pick up yard waste that was originally scheduled for pickup last Wednesday.

Storms in central Arkansas last week left a significant amount of debris across the city. The storm and extreme heat has limited the number of pickups that can be completed in a day, officials said.

They estimated that it will take two weeks to complete all of the current yard waste pickups, with early August as the anticipated time frame to be back on a regular collection schedule. The specific date depends on how much debris is still being placed on the curb for pickup, the city said.

Little Rock has received more than 250 service requests at 200 locations after the storm last Thursday.

Residents can place storm debris -- such as tree limbs -- at the curb for pickup. The yard waste rule regarding limb sizes has been temporarily relaxed, the city said, but only for storm debris.
