Allday's doubles power Travelers

Forrestt Allday went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and drove in 2 runs as the Arkansas Travelers defeated the Springfield Cardinals 4-1 on Wednesday night at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.

Allday (Central Arkansas) had a two-run double in the fourth inning that scored Alex Yarbrough and Caleb Adams to give the Travs a 3-0 lead. He doubled to lead off the third inning and scored two batters later on Andrew Daniel's RBI double for a 1-0 advantage.

Springfield cut the lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning on Juan Herrera's sacrifice fly. But Yarbrough homered in the sixth inning to extend the Travs' lead to 4-1.

Daniel and Yarbrough each had two hits for Arkansas.

Chris O'Grady (1-1) allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 5 innings for the Travs. He struck out three and didn't walk a batter.

Kenyan Middleton gave up a two-out single to Luis Cruz in the bottom of the ninth, but he earned his second save of the season.

Springfield starter Trey Nielsen (6-7) scattered 11 hits and gave up 4 runs in 9 innings and struck out 6.

Four Springfield players had at least two hits -- Cruz, Blake Drake, Nick Martini and Andrew Sohn.

The Travs return home today to start a seven-day, eight-game homestand, which includes five games against Tulsa, one a doubleheader, and three against Northwest Arkansas.
