Arkansas city to consider temporary change to park's tobacco ban

HARRISON — The Harrison City Council has been asked to consider a temporary change in the city's ordinance against tobacco in parks for a coming motorcycle rally.

The Harrison Daily Times reported that the Ride the Ozarks motorcycle rally is scheduled to be held at Minnie Harris Park in October.

Convention and Visitors Bureau director Matt Bell asked a council committee Thursday for a section of the park to be set aside as the only place people can smoke during the rally. The city passed an ordinance in November banning all tobacco products and electronic cigarettes from park property.

Bell said the park has been approved for a beer garden, and attendees who smoke might want to have a cigarette while drinking. He told council members the smoking section would contain receptacles for cigarette butts to be discarded.
