Lowell man sentenced to 18 years for meth

A Lowell man was sentenced to more than 18 years in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, according to a news release issued Wednesday by U.S. Attorney Kenneth Elser.

James Bryan Witherspoon, 42, was arrested in 2015. Federal investigators searching his vehicle in September 2015 found a backpack with 2.2 kilograms of methamphetamine, along with baggies and a scale, according to the news release.

Investigators then stopped Witherspoon on Oct. 8, 2015, in Springdale, and found 642 grams of meth, more than $11,000 in cash and additional drug paraphernalia, the news release stated.

Witherspoon admitted to investigators that he had been distributing meth in Northwest Arkansas, according to the news release.

Witherspoon was also sentenced to five years of supervised release following his prison term and fined $15,00, the news release stated.
