FORT SMITH -- In the battle of Fort Smith, Northside's attacking aggression -- on offense as well as defense -- was too much for Southside.

Tevin Brewer scored 24 points to pace the Grizzlies to a 75-61 7A-West boys victory over the Rebels Friday night at the UA-Fort Smith Stubblefield Center.

Northside (11-10, 3-4) forced 15 Southside, dominated the glass and shot 38 foul shots in the game.

"Just like against (Springdale Har-Ber), if you give good teams 38 free throws and turnovers they are going to take advantage of it," Rebel coach Charles Cooper said. "They killed us on the glass and we could not stop their drives to the basket. Those things are difficult to overcome and you are going to pay for it."

Northside head coach Eric Burnett praised junior forward Tyrell Perry, who came off the bench to score 17 points and play a key role under the basket.

"I thought he really dominated the boards tonight," Burnett said. "He was so aggressive. He went after the ball when a shot was missed ... on both ends of the floor."

The Grizzly win creates a log-jam for fourth-place in the West as Northside, Southside and Springdale are all tied at 3-4.

"This was a big win for us because now is the time to start jockeying for position in the standings," Burnett said. "This gives us momentum for the second half of the season."

The second half of the conference schedules starts back up next Friday. Northside travels to Fayetteville while Southside hosts Bentonville.

"In this conference, everyone team has the ability to beat you. There is no sure win," Cooper added. "The second half is going to be interesting."

Northside led 35-29 at halftime, but blew the game open with a 11-0 spurt late in the third period to grab a 51-35 lead. Perry scored five points in that run.

The Rebels used a 3-pointer from Dathan Hillian and a pair of free throws from Seth Hawley to trim the lead back to 51-40 going into the final quarter.

The Grizzlies, though, put the game away thanks to a 9-2 spurt in the first two minutes of the final quarter, keyed by seven consecutive points from Trey Norwood, who finished with 10 points.

"I thought Norwood's 3-pointer (that started the run) was huge," Burnett added. "Southside had made a little run, but his shot busted the game open."

Isaiah Joe added 13 points for Northside. Zion Releford paced Southside with 18 points while Hawley added 12.

The second-ranked Lady Bears continued their mastery over their crosstown rivals with another easy victory to stay unbeaten in the 7A-West.

Northside (22-1, 7-0) jumped out to a 15-2 lead six minutes into the game and never let Southside in the game. Aahliyah Jackson scored 10 in the first quarter as the Lady Bears built a 21-6 lead.

The lead got up to as much as 33-10 in the second quarter before the Lady Bears settled for a 33-13 halftime lead. Northside led by as much as 26 late in the third period.

With No. 1 Little Rock Central losing to North Little Rock Friday, the Lady Bears will likely be the state's top-ranked girls team next week.

Since the 7A-West went to an 8-team league in 1992, this is the first time that the Lady Rebels (3-18, 0-7), finished winless in first half of conference play.

Jackson paced Northside with 20 points while Lauren Krissman added 13. Kelly Carson led Southside with 11 points.
