The Shiloh Museum of Ozark History opened its doors Jan. 9 for the Cabin Fever Reliever.

The annual open house provided guests an opportunity to see the newest addition to the Springdale museum’s main gallery. The exhibit tells the “story of the Civil War and life on the home front during the Civil War,” plus the reconstruction of Northwest Arkansas and the effects of World War I. It covers from 1860 to 1920, Allyn Lord, director, told me.

The latest exhibit is the first of five to be completed by 2018, when the museum will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The museum is in the middle of a fundraising campaign to renovate the Shiloh Meeting Hall, built in 1871. Lord said the building in Springdale through the years has housed three churches, Masons, the Women’s Civic Club and the International Order of Oddfellows.

The group has already renovated the exterior of the building, and when the campaign is completed, will have done the interior and grounds and purchased furnishings.

Those relieving cabin fever included Allyn Lord, Stella Floyd, Natalie Olsen, Teresa Teravainen, April Rusch, Cathy Jones, Judy Costello, Clyde McAmey and Jenee and Dan Boetel.

The Arts Center of the Ozarks kicked off 2016 with its first artists’ reception of the year on Jan. 14 at the center in Springdale. The reception is an opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their work.

Craig Colorusso’s “Cubemusic” and Steve Adair’s “Leaf Forms” are the featured exhibits through Jan. 29.

“Cubemusic” is a sound and light installation that incorporates sound, space and light, giving each viewer a unique experience. Aluminum boxes with cutouts, speakers and lights make up the installation.

The “Leaf Forms” installation uses “peeling paint, abandoned personal items and dilapidated architecture,” according to the artist.

Next up for the nonprofit organization is One Night Only: Cirque des Arts, the annual fundraiser Feb. 19. Organizers promise cirque-style entertainment from the Orenda Troupe, live art events, music, hors d’oeuvres by Chef Miles James, fine wine studio, gourmet food and spirits and a silent auction.

The arts center winter art classes beginning now for adults and children include private or semi-private acting classes with Harry Blundell and visual art classes in oils and watercolors for adults.

Offerings for children include homeschool art class, Mini Doodlers and After School Art,

Those visiting with artists and enjoying their installations included Jessica Lee and Irvin Camacho, Linda and Burt Crume, Daniel Hintz, Marsha Foster, Eve Smith, Lynn Donald Carver and Marsea Lopez.
