Church, Hall lead Pea Ridge past Prairie Grove

PRAIRIE GROVE -- Westin Church scored 16 points, Joey Hall added 14 and Pea Ridge held Prairie Grove without a field goal the final 10 minutes, 41 seconds of the game as the Blackhawks defeated the Tigers 50-29 in a 4A-1 Conference game.

Prairie Grove was within 33-26 early in the fourth period, but Hall hit a jumper and a 3-pointer for a 38-26 lead and the Blackhawks (13-3, 3-1) then closed out the game with a 8-0 run. Hall and Church both hit three 3-pointers each.

"Joey is one of those kids that is never afraid of the moment when you need a big shot," said Pea Ridge coach Trent Loyd. "Joey hit a couple right there that took it from seven to 12, 13-point range. We executed well to get Joey and Westin open."

Pea Ridge held Prairie Grove (2-10, 1-3) in the second half, and the Tigers were just 4-of-18 from the field after halftime.

"Our defense still has to be there and be the foundation of this team," Loyd said. "We defend our tails off."

Dylan Soehner led Prairie Grove with 12 points.

Mattie Hartin scored 12 straight points early in the game and finished with 33 as Prairie Grove defeated Pea Ridge.

Hartin scored 21 points as Prairie Grove took a 45-13 halftime lead. The senior hit eight 3-pointers herself, while the Lady Tigers hit 12 3-pointers in the game. Parker Lopez was also in double figures for Prairie Grove with 10 points.

"Mattie had been off the last few games, and this was a good game for her to come out and do what she is capable of doing," said Prairie Grove coach Kevin Froud. "Mattie is capable of doing that every night. We have a lot of players than can go out and score. The girls were feeding Mattie, and she was getting her shots up."

Hartin hit the first of her six first half 3-pointers for a 5-2 lead less than two minutes into the game. Hartin's third 3-pointer of the first period pushed the lead to 14-4. Prairie Grove (11-4, 4-0) took a 25-9 lead to the second period, and Hartin hit three more 3-pointers, including two the final 1 minute, 24 seconds, as the Lady Tigers led 45-13 at halftime.

Pea Ridge turned the ball over 15 times in the first half, and the Lady Tigers had 23 points off turnovers the first 16 minutes.

Jennifer Anthony led Pea Ridge with 18 points while Avery Dayberry added 11.
