The man arrested after a standoff at Arkansas State University last month is being charged with three felonies, authorities said Thursday.

Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington said in a statement Thursday that Brad Bartelt, 47, will face charges of making a terrorist threat, criminal possession of explosive material or destructive device and terroristic threatening.

If convicted, Bartelt faces up to 30 years on the making a terrorist threat charge and lesser terms on the other two charges.

The Dec. 10 standoff on the lawn outside the ASU union shut down campus and prompted the university to send out alerts warning of an active shooter.

Police say Bartelt drove onto the lawn and called 911, telling dispatchers he was on campus and had a gun. He brandished a shotgun and at times pointed it at a propane tank in his truck, though he never opened fire.

Police documents filed in the case show Barelt told investigators he initially intended to "shoot other people, but he realized murder would be wrong," the Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

Bartelt remained in the Craighead County jail Thursday.
