Search of Kaw Lake continues for Craig Strickland

The search at Oklahoma's Kaw Lake for local singer Craig Strickland temporarily ended Sunday at dark with no news. Crews will resume the search this morning.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol flights searched land and water, four boats using side scan sonar searched the lake and five search and rescue dogs were used on land and water Sunday, said Lt. Kera Philippi.

Today's search will use four side scan sonar boats but no search and rescue dogs, Philippi said.

Sunday marked a week since Strickland, 29, of Springdale went missing. On Dec. 27 he went duck hunting with a friend on Kaw Lake in Oklahoma. The men's capsized boat and the body of Chase Morland, 22, of Van Buren were found Dec. 28 shortly after the search began. Strickland's dog was found alive near Morland, authorities said.

Helen Wisner, Craig Strickland's wife and a former Miss Arkansas USA, posted a picture Sunday morning with the dog noting there was an ongoing search in a promising cove.

Strickland is the lead vocalist for the Fayetteville country rock band Backroad Anthem. The band has been singing together since 2012 and has performed more than 500 shows, according to a social media account for the group.

Kaw Lake is a 38-mile-long lake with more than 170 miles of shoreline encompassing more than 16,000 acres, according to a website dedicated to the lake by the Kaw Lake Association.
