Break-ins reported at fire departments

TEXARKANA -- Three Miller County volunteer fire departments were broken into Wednesday night in the Fouke and Genoa areas, and someone attempted to pry open the door of a fourth, authorities said.

"Miller County sheriff's office responded to calls from four volunteer fire departments reporting burglary, theft and criminal mischief," said Wesley Penny, Miller County investigator.

According to a police report, the first break-in was reported at 7:39 p.m. at the Miller County Satellite Station 8 on Arkansas 196 South, also known as Genoa Road.

"Items reported stolen include Motorola portable radios used for public safety, two MSA [brand] air packs, an air compressor, chain saws and a 50-inch TV," Penny said.

Less than an hour later, at 8:19 p.m., deputies were called to a report of burglary and theft of property from the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, also on Arkansas 196. Items stolen from the station include a Motorola portable radio, medical bags, a chain saw and a crowbar, Penny said.

At 8:42 p.m., police were called after a door was found pried open at the Booker Bridge station on Miller County Road 14 in Fouke, though nothing was missing, according to a police report.

And at 10:07 p.m., police were called when it was discovered that someone had attempted to pry the front door open at the Boggy Creek Volunteer Fire Department at 100 S. Burgess Road in Fouke.
