3A-5 GIRLS SEMIFINALS

Episcopal cranks up offense in rout

There was no lack of offense in Episcopal Collegiate's postseason opener.

Senior forward Kelvin Robinson scored 30 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 4 steals as the two-time defending Class 3A state champion cruised past the Perryville Mustangs 90-58 in the 3A-5 semifinals on Thursday at Episcopal.

Episcopal (16-9) hit 22 of 36 first-half shots on its way to building a 50-33 halftime advantage.

"If we shoot it well, we usually score a lot of points because we like to play fast," Episcopal Coach Micah Marsh said.

"And we shot it well in the first half tonight. We got some good transition buckets, and we really attacked the bucket well. We got quite a few turnovers, too."

Episcopal advances to tonight's championship game against Jessieville.

The Wildcats will be no worse than a No. 2 seed for next week's regional tournament in Cedar Ridge.

Perryville (10-17) was 11 of 23 from the floor in the first half, but the Mustangs were guilty of 10 first-half turnovers.

The Wildcats hit four of their first five shots and never trailed. Senior guard Allie Freeman added 20 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Junior guard Kameron Brasfield tacked on 17 points, 7 assists and 3 steals.

Episcopal came up with 12 steals in the first three quarters when the starters were in the game.

"Everybody talks about it, but when you rely on shooting jump shots, it can get you in trouble," Marsh said. "You've always got to rely on something else, and that's usually defense. I wish our defense was a little bit better in the halfcourt. We need to buckle down a little more. This time of year, you have to have defense."

Perryville, which will be the No. 4 seed for next week's regional, was led by guard Chandler Roland's 13 points. Johnathan Lang added 11 points, and Drake Henderson put in nine. Roland, Lang and Henderson are all sophomores.
