Second Thoughts

Cleveland using less of Wahoo

Memphis Grizzlies Coach David Fizdale said he doesn’t think Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James could ever be an NBA coach. “He would kill somebody,” Fizdale said with a laugh.

The Cleveland Indians continue to phase out the Chief Wahoo logo.

According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians dropped their cream alternate jerseys after the 2016 season, but they will keep the red block C hat. That hat will now be used with their blue jerseys. From Hoynes:

"Clubhouse manager Tony Amato said the Indians won't have an alternative jersey until 2018 after retiring the cream jerseys last season. They will, however, retain the red caps from the cream uniforms and wear them with their blue tops at home in 2017."

That means fewer appearances for the blue Chief Wahoo hat. The logo will remain on the sleeve of the blue home jerseys, however.

The Indians wore their Chief Wahoo hats throughout the entire 2016 postseason. Traditionally, the starting pitcher gets to pick the team's uniform for that day's game, and it worked out that Chief Wahoo was on their hat for all 15 games in October.

Add Indians

The Cleveland Scene, a weekly publication, will propose some team nickname alternatives for the Indians this week.

The choices are: Spiders, Inventors, Guardians, Blue Collars, Sound and Industrials.

Killer coach

There's no question that LeBron James is one of the most intelligent basketball minds to ever set foot on the hardwood, but Memphis Grizzlies Coach David Fizdale -- who was an assistant in Miami during James' time in South Beach -- told reporters Tuesday that he doesn't see the future first ballot Hall of Famer ever coaching an NBA team.

Why?

"He would kill somebody," Fizdale said with a laugh, per ESPN. "Perfection is like -- he wants perfection. I could see him actually owning his own team and doing something like that, but I think he would end up killing a player at some point because they wouldn't live up to the expectations that he would set forth."

Winners, sort of

From Janice Hough of leftcoastsportsbabe.com:

"As fans wait for the end of 49ers season, remember that San Francisco was sure they could win without Jim Harbaugh. And they have, 6 times in 2 years."

Jack and Donald

Jack Nicklaus said his schedule kept him from going to two previous presidential inaugurations, but he plans to be in Washington next month when president-elect Donald Trump is sworn in.

And he won't be alone.

"Donald called and said, 'I want you to bring that kid that can really talk,' " Nicklaus said.

That kid is 55-year-old Jack Nicklaus II. Trump still raves about the speech Jackie Nicklaus gave when his father was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

"Every time he talks to Barbara and me he says, 'That is the best speech I ever heard,' " Nicklaus said. "He called personally to ask me to come."

Nicklaus has known Trump for years and designed Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in the Bronx.
