Craig Goulet, 66, of Harrison was stabbed several times by Annette Goulet before two witnesses intervened and disarmed her, according to a news release from the Boone County sheriff's office.

Sheriff Mike Moore said the witnesses had saved Craig Goulet's life.

Craig Goulet was flown to an area hospital where he underwent surgery for his wounds, according to the news release.

Annette Goulet faces a preliminary charge of attempted capital murder. She is in the Boone County jail with bail set at $150,000.

According to Boone County records, Annette Goulet filed for divorce from Craig Goulet on Sept. 16, and the divorce was granted June 20.

On May 9, Annette Goulet filed a complaint of domestic abuse against her husband. A temporary protection order was issued that day and dismissed June 6, when Circuit Judge Fred Kirkpatrick decided there wasn't sufficient evidence of immediate danger to Annette Goulet.

In an affidavit for the protection order, Annette Goulet wrote that, after 15 years, her husband was no longer happy with their marriage. Craig Goulet was trying to take control of land Annette Goulet and her family owned prior to the marriage, she wrote.

Annette Goulet wrote that her husband wouldn't let her leave her room and pointed a rifle at her on one occasion. She believed Craig Goulet was putting drugs in the food he prepared for her, so she quit eating it, according to the affidavit.

"I am very afraid of what he might do next, and I am scared to death of him," she wrote.
