The Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter will tee off its 18th annual “Golf Classic, Presented by General Mills,” on Aug. 15 at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers.

The shelter, a private, nonprofit organization in Vaughn, provides 24-hour-a-day emergency housing for area children who are victims of family violence, neglect and physical or sexual abuse. In 2015, the shelter served 448 Northwest Arkansas children from Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Sebastian and Washington counties.

Children might stay at the shelter for as many as 45 days in a six-month period before being placed in foster care. In their time there, children attend the shelter’s on-site school and receive on-site counseling.

Along with emergency care and case management, school and preschool, the shelter also provides life skills programs, summer camp and the Expanding Horizons programs with fun experiences.

Scott Hutcheson, marketing director, said the group is launching the “Sustaining Hope” fundraising campaign. He said giving to the campaign starts at $5 per month, and proceeds will help augment the shelter’s general operating budget.

The Golf Classic benefit will feature morning and afternoon flights and include lunch, contests, prizes and gifts. Sponsorships are available.
