Prairie Grove Senior Center receives award

Once again, Subaru’s “Share the Love Event” partnership with the Meals on Wheels Program benefits senior citizens. The Prairie Grove Senior Center has been awarded $500 to help sustain its efforts in providing nutritious meals to those seniors in Prairie Grove who are home bound. Thanks to this money provided by Subaru, local seniors will continue to not only receive the food they need but to be visited by friendly volunteers who often provide the only contact seniors have with the outside world.

Boone County Library gets new elevator

Thanks to generous donations from patrons and Friends of the Library, the Boone County Library in Harrison announces the installation of a new elevator. Housed in a mid-century building originally built as a bank, the building has served the community well since the mid-1980s when the Women’s Book Club of Harrison led a campaign to raise the money to purchase the building. But like most buildings, upgrades are required from time to time and certainly that was the case of the elevator. Parts were no longer available to repair the old elevator.

The new elevator was installed by Kone Elevators and Escalators Company headquartered in Little Rock. It took about three weeks to complete the project at a cost of $89,224.13.

From time to time, patrons bequeath parts of their estate to the library. The administrative board of the library works to be good stewards of these noncounty funds and saves them for emergencies such as the elevator. In addition to bequeathed funds, the Friends of the Library provided $5000 for the project.

The library board and staff are grateful to the Friends of the Library as well as the patrons who honored the library in their wills.
