Mauricio Ramos' three-run double just inside the third-base bag was the big blow that turned a one-run deficit into a two-run lead in the eighth. Bubba Starling and Hunter Dozier started the inning with doubles. Starling stayed at third though because he wasn't sure if Dozier's high drive to right field might be caught.

Orlando Calixte followed with a four-pitch walk to set up Ramos' shot down the line on the first pitch he saw from RockHounds reliever Jake Sanchez.

Northwest Arkansas manager Vance Wilson said Ramos has hit the ball hard some already this season with nothing to show for it. This time Ramos came up with his lone hit of the night to give the Naturals the win.

"He's lined out five times in the last week," Wilson said. "He's always ready to hit and he got his pitch and he hit the snot out of it."

Northwest Arkansas got solid pitching again as relievers Andrew Edwards and Mark Peterson combined for 4.1 scoreless innings. They struck out six and walked one between them. Peterson picked up the win, pitching the eighth and the ninth.

Midland put two runners on in the ninth with one out, but Peterson got a flyout and strikeout to end the game.

The Naturals combined for 10 hits as eight of the starting nine had at least one hit. Cam Gallagher and Dozier led the way with two hits each.

SHORT HOPS

• Carson Blair led the Midland offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. His two-out, two-run single gave the RockHounds a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth.

• Gallagher enjoyed a big night, going 2-for-2 with a walk, was hit by a pitch and drove in a run. The catcher also threw out two RockHounds trying to steal.

• Northwest Arkansas lost a couple runners on the bases. Dozier was called out on an appeal for leaving too soon after Ramos' flyout to center in the second inning. Gallagher was called out for runner interference in the sixth.

On Deck: Right-hander Alec Mills (0-1) will make his second start for the Naturals, while the RockHounds will counter with RHP Chris Jensen (1-0). Mills allowed just a run on four hits over five innings in his Double-A debut, but took the loss against Frisco. Jensen picked up the win, allowing a run over six innings against Arkansas.
