Little Rock Fire Department Capt. Randy Hickmon said a 15-year-old boy confessed to burning a playground at Franklin Elementary School at 1701 S. Harrison St. and was arrested Thursday. The boy said he was playing with a cigarette lighter, which fell and ignited the blaze on the afternoon of July 31.

Hickmon said investigators developed the boy as a suspect through his classmates, who were "talking, the way kids do, about who did what."

The boy, who was not identified because of his age, is set to appear in Pulaski County juvenile court in November.

A playground fire at Geyer Springs Elementary School that occurred Aug. 2 remained under investigation Thursday. Investigators hadn't determined whether the fires, which caused an estimated $225,000 in damage, are related.
