Teen's grandfather charged in Conway slayings case

The grandfather of one of the teens accused of killing a Conway couple in July is also facing a charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution in the case.

Randal Eugene Staton, 58, was booked into the Faulkner County jail shortly after 9 a.m. Friday and was being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Staton's grandson, Justin Staton, 14, and one of his friends, Hunter Drexler, 18, were charged in August with capital murder and other counts in the deaths of Robert and Patricia Cogdell, who had raised Justin Staton as their grandson.

Authorities Thursday said that two other teens who had been arrested shortly after the killings — 17-year-olds Connor Atchley and Anastasia Rose Roberts — were charged as adults with first-degree murder and felony theft by receiving in the killings.

Justin Staton's mother, Michelle, was charged Thursday with hindering apprehension or prosecution, a felony.

Roberts and her boyfriend, Atchley, appeared in district court Friday in Conway via video from the Faulkner County jail where they are in custody.

In a court appearance before District Judge Susan Weaver, bond for Atchley and Roberts was set at $500,000 each. Michelle Staton's bail was set at $50,000 cash and Randy Staton's bail at $35,000.
