FAYETTEVILLE -- Police arrested a man Thursday they said used a gun to threaten his ex-girlfriend and hit her dog with the gun, according to a preliminary police report.

Derrick Darnell Stidum, 34, of Springdale was arrested in connection with parole violation, terroristic threatening, residential burglary, animal cruelty, possession of a firearm by a certain person, second-degree battery and violation of a city ordinance.

Stidum forced his way into a house at 1743 Shamblin Ave., Apt. A, on Wednesday, revealed a loaded gun and struck his ex-girlfriend on the head with the barrel of the gun, according to a police report. He demanded to know if she had a man staying with her, according to the report.

Stidum slammed the woman's head against a wall and grabbed her, the report shows. At one point, he also hit the dog on the head with the gun, according to police.

Stidum threatened to shoot the woman and left the house, according to the report. He went across the parking lot and fired his gun multiple times, according to the report.

Stidum was arrested at 3416 N. College Ave., according to the report. He told police he injured the woman but denied striking her or the dog with a gun, according to the report.

Stidum said he fired a gun into the air. He told police he was intoxicated at the time.

Stidum was being held Thursday at the Washington County Detention Center with no bond and a hold from another department.
