An eighth-grade student died Tuesday after she fell unconscious in the Joe T. Robinson Middle School gym, the Pulaski County Special School District announced Wednesday.
According to a statement, several adults were present at the time the student became unconscious. A spokesman with the district said school officials attempted to revive the student before she was transported to a Little Rock hospital.
The student's name has not been released.
"The district wants to respect the privacy of the family and is limiting its comments," district spokesman Deborah Roush said in the statement. "Right now, the focus of the district, school and Robinson community is on supporting this family as well as the staff and students at the middle school."
Roush said additional counselors are available at the middle school for the remainder of the week.
