Marion native Barrett Baber returns to NBC's singing competition The Voice on Monday as the show kicks off its first series of battle rounds.

Baber won over all four judges — Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams — during blind auditions late last month. He ultimately chose Shelton, who compared the Arkansas native to country artist Garth Brooks.

Of the comment, Baber told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that it was "an incredible comparison to make, especially when that person is Blake Shelton."

He is one of 12 members of Team Blake. The three other judges' teams also each have 12 contestants.

Team Blake will receive vocal coaching from country artist Brad Paisley on Monday's episode.

In a video preview leading up to the episode, Baber and fellow contestant Dustin Christensen of Orem, Utah, are seen battling each other, singing Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis." (See the 1:48 mark in video above.)

"That was idiotic to put you two together," Shelton said of the battle shortly before announcing the winner.

The Voice airs at 7 p.m. Mondays and 8 p.m. Tuesdays on NBC.
