Tide storms back to beat Hogs

No. 8 Alabama scored four times in the final 17 minutes and beat Arkansas 27-14 Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The Crimson Tide overcame an error-prone first half to beat the Razorbacks for the ninth consecutive season. Alabama threw two interceptions and missed two field goal attempts in the second quarter and trailed Arkansas 7-3 at halftime.

Jake Coker's 81-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley gave the Crimson Tide the lead for good, 10-7 with 1:39 left in the third quarter. After Arkansas failed on a fake punt attempt on its own side of the field, Alabama scored again early in the the fourth quarter on a 3-yard pass from Coker to Richard Mullaney.

Eddie Jackson intercepted Brandon Allen on the Razorbacks' next drive and returned it to the Arkansas 13. Adam Griffith's 35-yard field goal extended the Crimson Tide's lead to 20-7.

Derrick Henry added a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:44 remaining for the Crimson Tide. Allen's 54-yard touchdown pass to Dominique Reed capped the scoring with 1:37 to play.

Alabama held Arkansas to 220 yards of total offense, including just 44 rushing yards. The Razorbacks' longest offensive possession totaled 26 yards prior to the long touchdown pass on their final drive.

The Crimson Tide out-gained the Razorbacks 204-77 in the first half, but trailed at halftime after Allen's 4-yard touchdown pass to Drew Morgan with 1:29 left before halftime. The score was set up by a Santos Ramirez interception that was returned to the Alabama 24 and a subsequent personal foul penalty against the Crimson Tide.

Alabama (5-1, 2-1 SEC) drove 80 yards on its first possession, but stalled inside the Arkansas 10 and settled for a 24-yard field goal by Griffith.

The Crimson Tide kicker missed on attempts of 25 and 48 yards in the second quarter.

Coker completed 24 of 33 passes for 262 yards. Ridley had eight receptions for 127 yards.

Henry rushed for 95 yards on 27 carries, scoring a touchdown for the 11th straight game.

After rushing for more than 150 yards in his three previous games, Arkansas running back Alex Collins was limited to 26 yards on 12 carries against the nation's ninth-best run defense. Collins had six runs for 13 yards last season against Alabama.

Allen completed 15 of 32 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. He was sacked three times.

Brooks Ellis led the Razorbacks' defense with 15 tackles. Mitch Loewen and Deatrich Wise each had a sack, and Josh Liddell had an interception.

Arkansas (2-4, 1-2) is off next week. The Razorbacks are scheduled to host Auburn on Oct. 24.
