Layoffs again hit Acxiom workers

At least 30 said to get pink slips

Acxiom Corp. laid off at least 30 employees Tuesday, a source familiar with the job cuts told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, said Tuesday that the layoffs occurred companywide, including at Acxiom's headquarters in Little Rock and the company's office in Conway.

The layoffs included employees in Acxiom's "audience solutions" department, the source said.

Ines Gutzmer, a spokesman for Acxiom, confirmed in an email that there had been layoffs and said that "less than 4 percent of the workforce was affected in Central Arkansas." She could not say how many people continue to work for Acxiom in central Arkansas.

"These actions are part of the normal course of doing business as we realize some synergies and cost d̶e̶f̶i̶c̶i̶e̶n̶c̶i̶e̶s efficiencies*," Gutzmer said in the email.

Acxiom, as a data broker, uses information gathered from public records, shopping habits and clients to help its customers with targeted marketing campaigns.

In May 2014, the company purchased LiveRamp, a marketing services company, to help Acxiom use offline data in its marketing applications.

In February, Acxiom laid off less than 2 percent of its global workforce, including 25 employees in central Arkansas,as the company combined operations with LiveRamp.

Acxiom has had several rounds of layoffs during a period spanning several months in 2013 and 2014.

During that period, the company said it was reducing its workforce as it tried to cut expenses. Acxiom referred to the layoffs as "delayering."

One round of the job cuts in February 2014 involved more than 215 employees nationwide, including some in Arkansas.

Acxiom has reported losses for its past two quarters, including a $11.04 million loss for the entire 2015 fiscal year.

The company reported a loss for the 2015 fiscal year in part because of a revenue decline in the information-technology segment that it sold for about $190 million to two private-equity firms in July.

Acxiom reported a loss of $1.04 million in its most recent quarter, which ended June 30.
